Sister Vickee Villanueva - 2018 Rectora - Biography
Sister Victoria (Vickee) Villanueva was born in Manila, Philippines on February 25, 1951 to Rafael and Rufina Pagarigan. Named after the victorious ending of WWII, Victoria (Vickee to her family & friends) aspired to be a nurse but was refused by some nursing schools she applied to due to her height.
Nevertheless, with her never-ending faith in God and fervent prayers, her dreams were realized when she was accepted to Saint Rita School of Nursing. She graduated with a degree in BSN five years later.
Sister Vickee then made a fateful trip to Guam where she met and fell in love with Ernest Villanueva, whom she later married on September 22, 1975.
Throughout the ensuing years, Sister Vickee’s faith in God helped her adjust to life as a military wife and ultimately a mother of three lovely daughters.
When strategy struck on November 30, 1989, her husband’s death, she was determined not to be brought down by grief. She was even more determined to continue maintaining a normal life for herself and her daughters.
At a time when she should have been angry, Sister Vickee turned to her faith and instilled in her daughters that despite their loss, the power of prayer and their love for each other as family would help them get through anything.
Today, Sister Vickee is a proud grandmother of six. Although she has been through many wonderful journeys and hard won challenges, life still throws her curve balls now and then. But she takes them in stride and hits them out of the ballpark with her faith and confidence in God.
Sister Vickee lived her Cursillo 748 on May 10-13, 2001, Decuria of St. Rita at Holy Redeemer in Oakland, CA. She is on the Regional Service Team as Secretary of Region XI Filipino Language Group. She was commissioned on October 5, 2014. Her term of service is four years and will end on September 30, 2018.
Sister Vickee will be the SF Filipino Cursillo Rectora on July 26-29, 2018, to be held at Vallombrosa retreat center.
